Live from WPC: The Cloud, Windows 8.1, and Microsoft’s Business Strategy

Posted by on
Day 1 of this year’s Worldwide Partner Conference is officially in the books. With over 14,000 attendees from over 150 nations, Microsoft has really raised the bar in the past year, and continues to transform the way cloud, mobility, big data, and enterprise social impact the way businesses utilize technology.

Steve Ballmer kicked things off for WPC by delivering a rousing keynote. “No matter what happens to consumerization, we, together, will deliver devices and services,” Ballmer said to a packed audience of Microsoft Partners.

Truth be told, he is right. The time to consider the facts and steer your business plan toward optimization is now. As Microsoft grows their core model for organizations, they continually offer opportunities for partners to participate in the process.

WPC boasts a new partner incentive program, namely TouchWins, which rewards authorized distributors and reseller partners an opportunity to earn Windows 8 Pro and touch devices. With this program came the announcement of Windows 8.1 RTM’s availability for OEM partners in late August. This means OEMs will get RTM bits with Windows 8.1 in time to prep devices for the holiday season.

On top of that, Microsoft spoke on the recent profitability study of cloud based technologies released by IDC. In speaking with companies that generated more than 50 percent of revenue from the cloud, IDC saw growth increase by more than double over the past year. This study proves beneficial for Microsoft, as they continue to bring cloud technology into a broader market.

Day 2 is well underway, and we cannot wait to update you on all the excitement from the WPC floor. What are your thoughts on this year’s WPC? Are you excited at the growing potential of cloud based technology?
