Edward Overbeek, Senior Vice President for Cisco services, opened his Cisco Live keynote address by jumping right into the model for next generation IT. Staying in line with Cisco’s push toward connectivity and the Internet of Everything (IoE), he detailed specifics for this new program.
In order to push the IoE, Overbeek suggested a number of new training programs and certifications. Since this program will be an application-centric infrastructure, the new training and certifications will include network applications developers, network programmers, Software Defined Network (SDN) architects and SDN Engineers. Overbeek also announced that Cisco is working with JouleX Services on energy management for IoE. This announcement is particularly well timed, as Robert Lloyd announced the upcoming release of Nexus 7700 earlier that day. Working with JouleX Services will allow Cisco to offer users reduced energy consumptions of each port, thereby saving money in the long term.
