The excitement of Cisco Live hit a high point when Sir Richard Branson, CEO of the Virgin Group, took the stage to deliver the closing keynote address. Branson, a man who needs little introduction, riled the crowd up from his opening statement.

The Virgin Group is about challenge. Think about that for a moment. Is your company about “challenge”, or simply survival? This attitude severely affects your direction, and falls in line with Cisco’s mission for integration and the Internet of Everything.

While Branson spoke on the definitive benefits of collaboration, he focused on specific business principles that dictate success, as well as personal growth. When asked his thoughts on being good vs. being passionate, he said, “You should be passionate. Your reputation is important. Lead a life that keeps your reputation intact.”

For many, this is a challenge. Passion plays a driving force in both personal and business decisions. But as the internet evolves, he is quick to remind us of how important our reputation is in the end.

This springboards off Branson’s experience growing the Virgin Group from the ground up. What started as an easy answer to a simple problem led to the burgeoning growth of Virgin Airlines, as well as Virgin Records.

How does this play into a practical application?

Branson says we have to dream big, to set our targets at the beginning of the year, and go after them. Passion and desire lead to results. Much in the same manner that Cisco leads innovation into integration, Branson reminds us to challenge ourselves and push our goals to match our passion.

We look forward to next year’s Cisco Live. Let us know your thoughts on Sir Richard Branson’s closing remarks!
