From the Floor of Cisco Live: Dave Evans, Cisco’s Chief Futurist Talks Technology

Posted by on
Cisco wants to make one thing clear at this year’s Cisco Live: Tomorrow starts here. The quickening pace of Cisco’s product development echoes this mantra. Further establishing Cisco’s investment into the future, Chief Futurist Dave Evans addressed the audience with his take on what is to come.

Evans started by putting everything in perspective with a few facts:

· Currently, 10 billion devices connect to the Internet.

· By 2023, there will be over 50 billion connected devices.

· As of today, the power of a smart phone can fit into the frame of your glasses.

· Shortly, the typical bandwidth to the home will be sufficient to display streaming video on every square inch of walls in an 1800 sq ft home.

To summarize, this is the reality of our world, and Cisco knows it. The future of technology is rolling out quick. Evans refers to this as a technology avalanche. Building off Cisco CEO John Chambers’ address, he dove deeper into how sensors will be used to improve our daily routine.

"Things with embedded sensors and connectivity will monitor your health,” Evans said before showing off a health scanner that will be on the market next year. The scanner analyzes, tracks, and trends your vital signs, all while updating you instantaneously on your smart phone.

Technology will benefit humanity on every level. This includes advancements in childbirth. 2014 will bring to the market the MC 10 Biostamp, which can monitor the health of your soon-to-be born child. To say the future is limitless is no exaggeration. But for Cisco, the future is now.

What are your thoughts on Dave Evans' address? Are you looking forward to these advancements? What are some predictions of your own? Let us know!
