Telecom Billing System

Q. My system is not polling. What should I check?
A. Check the following:

  • Are all programs running?
  • Are all connections available, i.e. cabling is in place, network is available, if DBA, etc.
  • Have you tried a manual poll and has it been successful? If yes, then it may be a scheduler issue.
  • Is your database full? Please check this link for more information on this point: Corrupt Databases in TBS

Q. I cannot archive, purge or even open the telephone configuration. What may be causing this problem?
A. Please refer to: Corrupt Databases in TBS.

Q. How often should I archive and purge old calls?
A. The database can grow to 1.2 GB in size, which holds approximately 2 to 2.5 million call records. Your own call volumes will dictate, then, how often you need to archive and purge.

Q. How do I run a TBS DBA CDR backup?
A. Please refer to: How to Run a TBS DBA CDR Backup.

Q. I have web reporting for TBS. I see summary data, but how do I see the detailed call records?
A. Please refer to: Telecom Billing System Web Reporting.

Q. I have the OTM TBS Enhanced Package. How do I enable web access to allow end-users to access TBS reporting via the Intranet or Internet?
A. Please refer to: Enable Web Desktop Access for TSB Reporting.

Q. Can you create Billing Classes for different pricing within the OTM Telecom Billing System?
A. The TBS Surcharge feature has been available since OTM version 1.2 and allows more flexibility with applying costs. This feature allows the system to assign different classes of billing for extensions, authorization codes and account codes within the same Telephone Configuration within the OTM Telecom Billing System. This is useful in such applications as Lodging or the Hospitality industry, or for Trade Centers, College Campuses, Municipal Centers, Accounting and Law firms.

For more information, please refer to: Using the TBS Surcharging Feature.

Q. Is there an easier way to build the hierarchy in the TBS module other than manually creating the departments and assigning each user?
A. There is a utility in OTM that allows for the importing and exporting of data that comprises the Employee Directory, the common database between the Station Administration, TBS and LDAP modules. This database includes information such as name, extension, terminal number, organizational, login, web reporting access rights and email address. It makes the task easier to build a database from scratch, or update a fresh database with organizational data when an upgrade to OTM is installed.

For more information, please refer to: Importing the OTM Hierarchy.

Q. I'm having problems getting data on the reports in the TBS module. What could I be doing wrong?
A. Customers occasionally have difficulty with OTM TBS filter configurations in their attempts to run call accounting reports. Most report failures are attributable to improperly built filters.

For more infromation, please refer to: TBS Filter Usage.
